About the Beers:
Some people trade beers. Brewers trade stuff too… We got put into contact with Curt at Voodoo Brewing out of our necessity for hops. We were in need of Galaxy, he was in need of Amarillo and we each had some excess of what the other party needed. Knowing that Voodoo makes killer beers out East it was mentioned that if they were ever out west and wanted to make a beer, that we would be all about it. We hashed out the recipe for this collaboration while out in Denver for the Craft Brewers Conference in April over beers at Falling Rock Taphouse. Curt rules, he cares about the quality of his beers deeply and his passion and hard work are super apparent. We are way stoked to have had the opportunity to brew with him. While Voodoo is best known for their Barrel Aged beers, their hoppy stuff is excellent as well. We met over hops…so hoppy beer here we come.
“Smug Alert” Mostly features Galaxy and Amarillo hops. Curt loves to use Apollo hops in his hoppy beers so we threw in a small splash of those as well. This Double IPA comes in at 9% ABV, 90 IBUs and is loaded with flavors of orange citrus, kiwifruit and passionfruit. It’s a different hop combination than we are familiar with and has a really unique flavor to it. Come check it out in the tasting room over the course of the new few weeks. We will happily be filling growlers of this beer as well.
“Otto’s Jacket” is an aggressively aromatic West Coast IPA hopped with Citra, Columbus and Motueka. The hop blend results in a flavor profile of tropical citrus, resiny pine and lime. The bright citrus and dank flavors play off eachother to create a super juicy IPA. Plus… “it smells like Otto’s Jacket.”
“Southern Dobis” is a beer we originally created by blending part of our “Dobis” Pale Ale (a Citra single hop Pale) alongside our “Southern Passion” IPA (a Southern Passion single hop IPA) into a single keg for SF Beer Week. It was a pretty cool combination so we decided to brew an entire batch of this beer. Notes of coconut, pineapple, mango and melon alongside a biscuity malt backing.
“Coffee and Cigarettes” is our lightly smoked Coffee Porter. Our wonderful neighbors at Sightglass Coffee roast their Kenyan Karatu blend the day before it is incorporated into the beer. The resulting beer has subtle smoky flavors, a viscous body, intense coffee flavor and keeps us warm on those cold San Francisco nights.
Look out for 3 casks of this beer to appear in a few weeks at the tasting room. Each one will be treated with a different varietal of coffee.
Cheers Y’all !!!
